From sourcing to extraction, every decision is made with intention.

Quality you can trust — without shortcuts.

At PRIMECAPS, quality isn’t a checklist. It’s how we make sure our supplements truly support your body so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.

This page is designed to help you learn and understand what truly matters in functional mushroom extracts — and how to separate low-quality products from extracts that actually deliver real benefits.

Quality means purity, bioavailability, and consistency.

Quality Matters

Not all mushroom supplements are created equal. What matters most isn’t just what you take — but how it’s grown, extracted, tested, and verified.

Many products look similar on the surface, yet differ significantly in active compounds, absorption, and transparency. Without proper sourcing and extraction, even high numbers on a label may not translate into real benefits.

Here, we break down what truly defines quality in mushroom extracts — so you can make informed choices based on substance, not hype.

Our approach to quality — from sourcing to final testing

Quality doesn’t start in the capsule. It starts long before — at the source.

Before launching PRIMECAPS, we spent extensive time evaluating and testing different sourcing and production partners. Our approach is built around layered quality control, designed to protect purity, potency, and consistency at every stage.

Layer one: Organic cultivation
Mushrooms are highly sensitive to their environment and can absorb contaminants from soil, water, and air. That’s why we work with organically certified growers, regularly audited by independent control bodies. Organic cultivation ensures clean growing conditions and full traceability.

Layer two: Certified organic extraction
Organic mushrooms alone are not enough. The extraction process plays a critical role in safety and quality. We work only with certified organic extract producers to ensure clean processing, controlled methods, and no unnecessary additives.

Layer three: Standardized extraction and potency control
Every production batch is analyzed for active compounds to ensure consistent potency. Our extracts are standardized to agreed functional levels — not just raw input amounts.

Layer four: EU import control & organic compliance
Before any product enters the European Union market, it must meet strict regulatory requirements.

Each imported batch is reviewed to confirm that all previous stages — cultivation, extraction, and processing — are properly certified, documented, and traceable.

EU organic regulations require verified documentation, certified operators, and full compliance with organic labeling standards. This additional control layer ensures that products entering the EU qualify for organic status under EU law and are subject to oversight by accredited control authorities.

EU regulations are among the strictest globally, adding an extra level of verification before products reach the market.

Layer five: Independent safety testing
Each batch undergoes third-party laboratory testing for contaminants such as heavy metals and other safety parameters.

Layer six: Advanced verification when required
For selected products, we perform deeper analyses, including beta-glucan verification and species or fruiting-body identification. These tests are complex and costly, but they provide an additional level of confidence where it matters most.

This layered approach allows us to go beyond minimum requirements and focus on what truly defines quality: purity, bioavailability, and consistency.

PRIMECAPS
Fruiting bodies are considered the gold standard in functional mushroom supplements

Fruiting Body VS Mycelium

The fruiting body is the part of the mushroom that naturally contains the highest concentration of beneficial compounds — including beta-glucans.

Many supplements use mycelium grown on grain. While cheaper to produce, this often results in a product diluted with starch rather than active mushroom compounds.

At PRIMECAPS, we use only fruiting bodies to ensure you get what matters most — the compounds your body actually recognises and uses.

more polysaccharides doesn’t always mean better quality

Polysaccharides — what really matters

In functional mushrooms polysaccharides are among the most important bioactive compounds — but not all polysaccharides are equal.

The most studied and biologically relevant polysaccharides are beta-glucans, particularly β-(1→3) and β-(1→6) structures. These are the compounds associated with immune modulation and overall resilience.

Other polysaccharides, such as alpha-glucans or starches, can increase total polysaccharide numbers on paper but do not provide the same functional benefits.

That’s why total polysaccharides alone don’t tell the full story. What truly matters is:

  • the type of polysaccharides present
  • their molecular structure
  • and whether they come from fruiting bodies, not grain-based mycelium

At PRIMECAPS, we focus on fruiting body extracts and verify beta-glucan content, not just total polysaccharide percentages.

In general, the smaller the gap between total polysaccharides and beta-glucans, the higher the quality of the extract — indicating fewer inactive fillers and a higher proportion of functionally relevant compounds.

Extract powders are much more efective than just grained mushrooms

Extraction & Bioavailability

Simply grinding mushrooms into powder isn’t enough. Without proper extraction, many beneficial compounds remain locked away and pass through the body unused.

That’s why we use carefully controlled extraction methods designed to make key compounds bioavailable — so your body can absorb and benefit from them.

Our focus isn’t on technical complexity, but on results your body can actually use.

Testing & Vertification

Quality doesn’t stop at formulation. Every PRIMECAPS batch is independently tested to ensure safety, purity, and consistency.

We believe transparency builds trust — which is why testing isn’t a one-time event, but a standard we follow batch after batch.

EU & USDA Organic Standards — What’s the Difference?

Different regions apply different regulatory frameworks to define and control organic production.

In the European Union, organic regulations are among the most comprehensive globally. They require full traceability, certified operators at every stage, and regular audits by accredited control authorities — from cultivation and extraction to import and labeling.

PRIMECAPS products fully comply with EU Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848, ensuring that sourcing, extraction, import, and documentation meet strict EU organic standards.

Where applicable, our products also comply with USDA Organic requirements, allowing them to meet expectations in both EU and US markets.

By adhering to EU organic regulations, we ensure a level of organic integrity that aligns with — and in many cases goes beyond — requirements applied in other regions, including the United States.
